Hi Kat,

There were places called Marland and Castleton within the Rochdale Poor Law
Union. Surviving records for this Union are held at Rochdale Central
Library, Lancashire Record Office and the Public Record Office, Kew.

The records at Rochdale are the ones most likely to name persons receiving
help from the Union, but possibly not inmates of the workhouse.

There is also a book, Down Poorhouse Lane: the diary of a Rochdale Workhouse
by J Cole. It may be out of print but could be obtained through a library.

Good luck
