Hi Barbara,

You cannot search the birth indexes on line I'm afraid. There is a project
called "freebmd" which is gradually transcribing the indeces on line and as
chunks are completed they are added to an on line index at www.freebmd.com
It is worth giving that a try.

Otherwise you would have to go to a library or record office in your area
which has microfilm copies of the indexes. Once you have found an entry, you
can order the certificate via the web at www.statistics.gov.uk/registration
