Hello all. This is my first posting to this list and am wondering if someone can help me. I have a relation who died at Salford Union Infirmary (Lancs) in 1916. Does anyone know if this was a workhouse then? Also could someone please advise as to why it would become necessary for a person to become a workhouse inmate at that time. Was it simply unemployment or infirmity or were there other factors? Any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated. Regards, Sharon.
