Hi Liz,
In 1828 each parish tended to have its own poorhouse (if it was big enough).
An illegitimate child was normally baptised in its mothers home parish, so I
would look in the parish records for Winterbourne Gunner first. The parishes
immediately adjacent to W. Gunner are Idmiston, Winterbourne Dauntsey,
Winterbourne Earls, Winterslow and Durnford and Pitton Farley.

Also in 1813 a new parish church was opened in Porton which is the nest
village along from Winterbourne Gunner. If you don't find him in W Gunner's
records, I would check Porton next and then the others in the order listed
above. Then I would check the records for the father's home parish.
