There is no way she could have been refused a proper certificate if that
is what she asked for. Possibly she was offered (and took) 'the cheaper
one', which is the short certificate, useless for FH purposes.

Some people are just silly - I am shocked that a record office person
(or maybe a registrar's clerk) should say this. Possibly a prudish type
who thinks 'irregularities' a]re shameful instead of just interesting.
It could be that she noticed the child was illegitimate, and decided
for your aunt that this was something she did not want to know (if she
was very young it may have been nannying)
