The interesting thing about this is that Annie and her mother were in a poor
house in london at some time in the 1880's and had a picture taken in some
form or other with Queen Victoria. It was for a magazine or periodical that
was running a story "The Queen and the Paupers". My grandmother remembers
seeing the picture, but now no one knows where it is. I have searched for
Annie Smith on a number of poorhouse web sites, but with a name like Smith I
have very little to go on..

The London Metropolitan Archive have an extensive photographic archive and
are the main London repository for the records of the London Poor Law
Unions. Some of the photographs are being made available on line.
It should be well worth while checking out what they do have.
