Hi Mary
Many thanks for your comments. Unfortuantely I have explored the deaths of
all the Robert Mumfords from 1881 to 1906 and seem to be down to about four
'possibles'. I have not looked at the death of female Mumfords about that
period and perhaps that is worth the effort. The strange thing is that there
was an Esther Rosina Mumford who was only 15 on the 1901 Census and her
father was Robert Mumford. My Esther was Esther Margaret.I sent off for the
birth certificate and got quite excited when I found the father was Robert
but there the excitement died. When I
checked for the marriage of this Robert and the mother as it appears on the
birth certificate of Esther I cannot find it although I have looked through
twice from 1837 to 1886.
I did know about St.Albans in Herts since I came from Edmonton but I still
seem to recall whilst trawling through the 1891 Census coming across
something to do with St Albans in London. I have a feeling it was connected
to some sort of charity and at the time I did look for her but with no
success. I'd just like to have another look but cannot think where it was.
Anyway thanks once again for your help.
Maureen
