Subject: [UK-W&H] "Hospital for Women & Children" - London 1931 & Children's Cottage Homes
Date: Thu, 6 Feb 2003 08:18:39 EST

Hello,

I am new to the list and have a couple of queries that I hope you can help me
with.
1) Hospital for Women & Children, 283 Harrow Road, London. 1931.
I have a birth recorded here, but in addition the mothers address is given as
the same. Does anyone know whether there was perhaps an institution for
rescues / waywards / insane etc? Can anyone recommend a good site where I
may find more detail. I've looked up a few and found the London Lock
Hospital on Harrow Road, but based on its position in 1900 vs a modern map of
283 Harrow Road they do not appear to be at the same site, but perhaps street
numbering changed or the hospital covered a larger area by the 1930's???

2) Children's Cottage Homes, Shenley Fields, Kings Norton. 1942 - 1950.
I have two brothers who were at this home, following the break up of their
family during WWII. I would like to get more information on this home and
would love to be able to also get hold of a photograph. I can't seem to find
much on the web, although a Google search did find a basic fact, that the
Homes were erected 1880's.

Looking forward to your replies,
Penny
