I have been trying to build an easy-to-use forum on Genealogy, Family
History and Local History that was focused on the British Isles. It's not
quite finished yet, and there are quite a few rough edges, but I think if we
just start to use it, then then they will come out in the wash (I'm
terrified!). I apologise in advance for the errors we have in it - but I am
a family history addict first, and very much a website builder second. As a
member of the Workhouse list I thought that you hear of it -
we actually plan to "launch" it next month. The address is

With RootsChat, you can post your message within your County (or other
subject group), and choose to receive emails on replies to only your
message, or on any other topics that you may choose to watch. You can also
search all old messages, under watever category that you wish.

Your email can be hidden from the world on RootsChat if you wish, and yet
you can still receive messages from other online users instantly by the use
of private messages. As many of us have found out, the less you give out
your email address publicly, the less likely you are to receive viruses or
unwanted emails!

What really exciting with RootsChat is that you can safely share images of
documents that you have, or indeed GEDcom files (from Family History
software), and text files. These kind of files cannot contain viruses and
can be safely shared here on RootsChat.

There is no charge for using RootsChat.com - it is there for us all to use,
with a British bias.
