Thank-you Peter,
Could you possibly tell me if there is a lodging house listed in Nicholls
Street. My problem is that my relative had a wife and family living in Old
Nichol 1871. Some of his admissions to the workhouse are from 2 New Tysson
St. which is in the Nichol vacinity. I have a settlement document for Feb
1881 which states he was living in a lodging house in Nicholls St. (he's in
Beth. Green workhouse on census night). I would have taken it to mean one of
the Nichol area lodging houses but for the fact that there is a Nicholls
Street further north, away from the Old Nichol area. I think he was being
deliberately vague about his address etc claiming to be single, a widower
etc because the marriage seems to have broken down sometime in the 1870s. In
1881 the wife is "married" to another man but searches by myself and a
cousin have failed to unearth any marriage cert.
Thank-you for your help
Frances
