Dear Bob,
Maybe the children were sent to live with an aunt/uncle or grandparent.
Another possibility was that they were sent to Canada or another country as home
children. Have you checked census records for the children's name using
different spelling or middle names used instead of first names? For example,
Harry is a nickname for Henry. There is a long list of English nicknames. I am
assuming that you have their name and just omitted them from the email.
In my family, I found legal records at the London Metropolitan Archives
between the Union and Barnardo's for my relative stating that he wanted to leave
England and come to Canada. Perhaps these records exist for the children as
well. I had to ask a few times before someone found this record that I
didn't even know existed but it was worth it to keep asking for help.
This is another story that may give you hope. I had a lady contact about a
sibling of a home child that just seemed to disappear. She found no records
at all. I located a shipping manifest to show her travel from England to
Canada. Then, by luck, I found a death certificate the following year back in
England. The lady requested the certificate and it was her missing relative.
Sometimes it seems that children disappear but later you find a record that
has just been transcribed and put online.
If this is a relative and you have their names. Keep looking and asking.
You may find the answer.
Good Luck on your search
