Hi Beverley,

The Vinegar Road workhouse was replaced in 1857/8 by the new one in Broad
Street. There do not appear to be any records prior to 1868 - except that my
book indicates there may be Settlement Examination records surviving from
1830 onwards. These were inquiries into where a person came from, as the
workhouse would only care for someone from its own patch - if someone had
come from another parish they were sent back to that parish for care.
Check with the London Metropolitan Archives as to what records they have.

Good luck
Mary
