"Jeffrey" should start his research by looking for
information about his great grandparents using the
online Ellis Island Database (EIDB). With some
fidgeting about with the several EIDB forms presented
he may be able to find the ship manifest for
Morris Cohn and his wife Pauline Cohn. Quite likely,
they arrived in New York. Jeffrey should try typing
in the several EIDB forms various spellings of the
name Cohn and guessing as to the year of their
landing. He may want to try using "Maurice" rather
than "Morris," and "Polya" rather than "Pauline. when
he tries the EIDB.

Jeffrey should also look up "Cohn," "Cohen ,"
Kohn, etc., of Odessa, in Jewishgen's Family Finder,
and enter in the Family Finder his own name and family
surnames and places of origin.
If he hasn't already joined Jewishgen, he should do so
and also read through its various "infofiles" to get
the benefit of their guidance.

When writing to any online genealogy group, Jeffrey
should:

1. create a subject line that is more "catchy" than
"Call for Help." Everyone who writes to such groups
is looking for help!

2. Jeffrey should sign his genealogical inquiries by
indicating not only his last name, but also at least
the state or country in which he lives, as such
information would help those who may wish to help him
in advising him where to search, what books to read,
etc..

Does Jeffrey live near one of the Mormons many
Family history centers, or near a good college,
university or public library?
