Subject: [UEL] The 'Kempffer House' in New Carlisle, in the Gaspe region.
Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2000 12:03:44 -0400
This should be of special interest to us.
The Hesse-Hanau Regiment Erbprinz Lieutenant Friedrich Ludwig Kempfer
after his discharge in Quebec in 1783, together with his comrade, the
Hesse-
Hanau Jaeger Lieutenant, William VondenVelden, a well known notary and
land surveyor, settled in New Carlisle in the Gaspe, in the by
VondenVelden
designed town.
The house built by Kempffer never received any historical protection, and
apparently developers are about to tear it down. At this point in time
some
historical protectors have succeeded in putting a temporary stop to the
bulldozers, and a write-in campaign is underway to save this historical
monument to one of the first settlers in town.
The 'Save the Kempffer House' forces are spearheaded by
Mr.Donald J. Flowers, U.E.
and if you are willing to support him, do e-mail him at this address.
Respectfully brought to your attention by
