Richard Ketchum, son of James and Sarah (Burr) Ketchum was born at Long
Island, New York in 1773. Following the American Revolutionary War, James
Ketchum and his two brothers, John and Jonathan, emigrated to what is now
New Brunswick. James settled in Woodstock where he and Sarah raised their
two sons, Ralph and Richard. About 1795 son Richard married Charlotte Upham,
the daughter of Jabez Upham, and they had ten children: James, George,
Ralph, Randolph, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Sarah Burr, Fanny, Charlotte, and
Margaret.

Richard and Charlotte's son Ralph built a store in the Woodstock area, which
was kept by his nephew George Randolph Ketchum. Eventually, George Randolph
moved to Aroostook, Maine. Another son of Richard and Charlotte, George
Ketchum, who was born in 1786, married Mary Ann Phillips, the daughter of
Capt. T. Phillips. They raised two sons, Henry George Clopper and Charles.
