Hi all
In preparing for the coming death of my mother, I am looking into a few
things that might make her memorial service special/different.
She will be buried in the small local cemetery in Bolton Landing, NY. This
is just up the road from our family summer house and in the midst of where
her gggg gfather, Gen Timothy RUGGLES participated in the engagements of
1757-58.
As she is in Hospice care now, and will be cremated, that will allow for a
memorial service early this coming summer. There will be the usual family
and close friends but the other friends and acquaintances could number quite
a large group.
My question is, During the memorial service of a female individual with
direct ties to individuals of bygone events (but who did not actually serve
in the military) would it be appropriate to have musicians off in the
distance on a hillside, that would play music appropriate to an event like
this for that time period.
I have been at services where the pipes have been played, even songs sung.
None though for a female.
I know that what goes on is partly the rules of the cemetery and partly what
the family wants. I am asking the questions from the point of what all of
you have witnessed or read about. Any opinions, suggestions, or thoughts
will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Bill PERKINS
