Subject: [UPHOLD] Gracie Myrtle TURNER UPOLE (EVANS descendant?)
Date: Fri, 5 Jan 2007 09:47:52 -0500
I am still searching for my G, Grandmother, Gracie Myrtle Turner Upole's
family line. Today all information leads me back to the family of Abraham
Evans of Grant Co. WV and (possibly) his daughter, Jane C. Evans.
1860 Hardy Co. Greenland, Virginia
Abraham Evans, 50, farmer, $900/$400 VA
Mary, 39, VA
Benjamin, 20, laborer, VA
Eliza J. 18, VA
John T or L, 17, VA
Caroline, 15, VA
Indiana, 13, VA
David, 11, VA
Jacob, 8, VA
Jane C., 7, VA **************
Bartholemew, 5, VA
Benjamin, 92, PA
Priscella, 82, MD
1880 Grant Co., Union District, West Virginia census
Abraham Evans, 60 (1820) widow, farmer, VA VA VA
Wm. Turner, W M, 60 servant married, farm laborer, VA PA PA
Jane C. Turner, 26 servant married, keeping house, VA VA VA *****
Mary C., 5 (1875) daughter, at home WV VA VA
Gracie M. 2 daughter, at home WV VA VA
Orie (Oril) E. 11 months daughter, at home WV VA VA *This daughters name was
ORA E.
(Turner, Ora E. died June 03, 1882 of typhoid fever at age 3 years 1 month
11 days old parents: Wm and Jane C. Turner. Living in Union district)
Gracie married Truman Edward Upole Dec. 4, 1893 in Garrett Co. Maryland and
lived in that county the rest of her life.
Clues:
Gracie named one of her daughters Ora Pearl - was she named after the sister
of Gracie who died young?
List of persons & property in Grant County other than real estate,
delinquent for the non payment of taxes for the year 1896.
Union District:
Uphold, W.S. - 1.00 - Out of Co.
The above delinquent tax list is for W. S. Uphold. This was William Smith
Uphold - brother of Truman. IF the taxes were delinquent in 1896 I have to
assume Wm. Smith Uphold was in the Grant Co. Union District prior to 1896
and possibly in 1893 when Truman and Gracie married. Truman was associated
with work in the lumber business so it is possible William Smith and Truman
lived for a while in the area working at a lumberyard. Does anyone know
where I could find information on the lumber business for Grant Co. in the
late 1800's?
I know Gracie Upole was alive May 12, 1914 and had died by Oct. 29, 1918
when Truman remarried.

Are there any descendants of these families researching this family who
might know the exact date of Gracie's death. I would like to order a death
certificate but I need an accurate date.
