Eric,

Even tho' you think they left Ontario by 1864, I'd check out the
John Dowker found on the INDEX to the 1871 census (online) for
Galt. He is age 67 (a good age to be the father) b. England -- but
you can go and get the info yourself.

Remember this is an index -- and you need to order the full reel to
get the family group -- and that will tell you if you have the right
John Dowker.

There are DOWKERs in the Waterloo area (that is where Galt is)
on the OFCA pages -- including a John Dowker, same religion as
the man above.

Have you looked at the 1861 census for Hamilton? That will also
give you the family grouping -- including any siblings of Rosamund
born by then.
