Subject: 1842 census - Gore District, Brantford Indian Reservation

I just finished looking (in vain) for the family of my great great
grandfather James Smith in the 1842 census returns (on LDS film # 281227).
Our family history says he settled in Brantford township in 1836, but I was
unable to find the expected family of six persons (all born in Scotland) in
the part of the Gore district subtitled "Brantford Indian Reservation." Can
someone tell me if this area would have included all of the present township
of Brantford?
