Subject: [UPP-CAN] Searching for information on Joseph Lee of Cramahe Township, Ontario
Date: Thu, 05 Oct 2000 16:24:46 EDT
Hi Listers
I am looking for any information or suggestions to help in my search for
information on my ggrandfather JOSEPH LEE, b. about 1836, d. January 18,
1911. His spouse was Isabelle Shields, and they were married in
Northumberland County on January 1, 1864. There is no record of Joseph on
the 1861 census in Cramahe. Children were John Wesley Lee, George Albert
Lee, Jennie Lee, Thomas Herbert Lee, Wilhemina Lee, William Lee, Charles
Joseph Lee, and Maude Lee.
On Joseph's death registration it stated he was born in Ontario. His
father's name was William Lee. Family legend has it that William came to
Canada from Holland and spoke no English, though different censuses list
Joseph as English and German! On one census the enumerator had listed
several families as of Dutch origin, then crossed it out and wrote German,
so I wonder if there was some confusion about "Deutch".
Anyway, I would appreciate any info or ideas. I seem to be stuck.
Thanks, Donna
