Belle River is a town in Essex County as the previous respondent said.
It is also currently a parish in the Roman Catholic diocese of London
(their archives at 1070 Waterloo St N, London ON N6A 3Y2). The diocese
of London was created in 1856. Prior ecclesiastical jurisdictions for
Essex County were the Archdiocese of Toronto 1841-1856, and the diocese
of Upper Canada 1826-1841, the latter presided over by the Bishop of
Kingston. So your reference appears to pre-date 1841.
