I checked the online directory for Oxford Co. (which is where
Norwich is located) for 1857/58.

There are lots of KERR names, but the only one in North Norwich
is

Kerr J. Concession 01 Lot 26 North Norwich Township

I would get the Abstract Indexes to Deeds for this property.
Find out what this man's first name was, and all records of
transactions on the property - because this could be your
James.

For info on how to do this, see

If you aren't familiar with the fantastic online databases for
Oxford Co.
go to

For more Oxford Co. databases online see

Choose the topic of interest to you - census records, vital
stats and so on.
