Subject: [UPP-CAN] Butler's Rangers (African)

Hello All:
Someone previously mentioned Butler's Rangers and I wanted to say that on the weekend, I read an account of a member of this fighting force, I think his name was Richard Pierpoint and he was African.
I was amazed to read that. I had always assumed (a bad thing) that anyone Coloured was in a SEPERATE Regiment and they weren't mixed. Guess I was wrong.
I am interested in Black families living in the area of the Bay of Quinte and Hastings County, if anyone knows of such.
I became interested in our EARLY BLACK SETTLERS, when two friends asked me to HUNT FOR the possibility that they had a Black Ancestor and to find proof. I thought it would be easy - it was almost impossible as our Enumerators didn't use the Racial column. But I did prove it for one lady but not the other, as her family was in Hungerford Twp.
This search took years, so now I'm interested in finding more families, if that's possible, where their Racial Origin has already been established.
Bonnie
