According to "Early Settlers in Niagara, including the
First 'Census' 1782, 1783, 1784, 1786, 1787" published 1992
by Niagara Peninsula Branch OGS, Joseph SINN appears under
the following:
"Return of Persons under the Description of Loyalists in
Capt. Andrew Bradt's Company of the Corps of Rangers,
Niagara, 30 November 1783"
He is recorded as "Sgt. Joseph Sinn, age 30"
I checked the rolls for Capt Ten Broeck's company, but no
Joseph Sinn (or variant) is found. The closest is a Cpl
SCRAM, age 26. If this is your man, he may be from the
Schram family.
There is also a "Joseph SIM" on "Loyalists Victualing List
Mr. Burches District at Niagara 14 Nov. 1786" as a single
man
This book was taken from microfilmed muster rolls, pay
lists, 'census' records and so on ,so it's source quality
is excellent.
It may be of interest to you to know that Andrew Bradt was
related to me through my Loyalist Isaac Vollick (also in
Butler's Rangers) whose mother was Maria Bradt. These
families mainly originated in New York (mostly Albany
area). Another important point is that most of the men who
formed these companies chose men from their own areas --
from their own villages or towns. My Larroway,
Vrooman, VanSlyke, Bradt and Ryckman families, for example,
are all members of Capt Bradt's Co. -- and they all lived
near each
other in NY. So it is a very good possibility that Joseph
Sinn was also from the Albany area -- or at least from New
York.
This does give you an approximate dob for Joseph (1753) so
it may be possible to find him in church records in New
York if you decide it's worthwhile looking there.
