Thanks, I'll look into the Eastern Townships. Despite my assertion
that these folks were true, blue "Americans" (or rebel scoundrel
traitors, as the Loyalists and Brits might have called them), several
folks on the list felt they were United Empire Loyalists, and moved
because of their disenfranchisement. That they were well settled in
Canaan, NH; stayed in Canada a relatively short time; and returned to
their original farms makes me think there must have been some particular
non-Loyalist reason for the moves at that particular time.
