Montgomery, Jean Urton Pastre

MONTGOMERY-Jean Urton Pastre Montgomery, was born on April 1, 1927 and passed away November 23, 2007 in Bradbury, California. She was born and raised in Santa Barbara, where her father, Charles Urton, was a well known builder. She was secretary of Santa Barbara High. She attended Occidental College, where she met her husband, George Pastre. Jean taught 36 years, two in France, and 32 with the El Monte District. She taught 1st grade and was a reading specialist. She received her MA from Whittier College. She was honored by having a computer lab named after her. She lived in Temple City for 51 years. After being widowed, she later married Robert Jack Montgomery, who passed away in 1992. They were avid world travelers, and she was also very active in traveling with her Occidental College friends. Jean's favorite hobby was sewing wearable art jackets and she was involved with a sewing club. Her work was featured in the Quilters' Hall of Fame and on TV. She was involved with the!
Arcadia Church of the Good Shepherd for over 5o years. She was president of her P.E.O. sorority, and enjoyed working at the P.E.O. thrift shop. She is survived by her children, Polly Pastre of Rancho Cucamonga, Alan Pastre of Corvallis, Oregon, grandchildren Dawn and Christopher Pastre of Oregon, Kevin and Nathan Cooke of Fontana and Rancho Cucamonga, as well as 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in laws, Elaine Urton, Tom and Jan Montgomery, Pauline Montgomery, and Mary Yelland. Jean was loved and gave love. A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 1 at 12:00 P.M. at the Church of the Good Shepherd at 400 W. Duarte Road Arcadia, California. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the mi nistry of Reasons to Believe 731 E. Arrow Hwy Glendora, CA 91740.
