MONDAY EVENING - JANUARY 16, 1899
XENIA, OHIO
GREENE COUNTY

Catherine ROUTH TOWELL was born in Louisville, Kentucky July 25, 1813,
moved to Jamestown, Ohio in 1822 and resided there until her marriage
with John TOWELL June 9
1839. To them were born eight children, two boys and six girls. Four of
whom survive her,
Mary E., Sarah J., and Eliza M GORDIN., and Martha B. HIELMAN, during her
long, long, illness, with loving hands, ministered to her every want as
only kind and affectionate children could minister to a beloved mother.
Sister TOWELL united with the Christian Church in Jamestown June 15, 1837
and until her death nearly 62 years, lived an
exemplary life, and at 8 o'clock a.m. January 11, 1899 calmly and
peacefully without a struggle, she passed to that Silent Land. God
"giveth his beloved sleep." She was aged 85 years 5 months and 16 days.
