The following obit was found in a old sewing cabinet. Hope someone can use
it.
Rencanda Octave Dillon
Rencanda Octave Dillon was born at Bluefield, VA., August 9, 1857.
She departed this life at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. C. A.
Offerie, August 27, 1938, at the age of 81 years and 18 days.
In Gallia County, Ohio, January 19, 1875 she was united in marriage to
Millard Fillmore Prose who passed away October 23, 1915.
Mrs. Prose raised to maturity ten children and two granddaughters. The
family moved from London, Ohio, to Kansas in November, 1885 where they
homesteaded in what is now the southeastern part of Lane County where she
has since resided.
Mrs. Prose was always ready to give a word of encouragement or helping
hand to forward the interest and welfare of her community.
Two daughters, Mrs. Grace Stull and Mrs. Lvy Slagle preceded her in death.
She leaves to morn her departure the following children: Mrs. Essie
Thomas, Bert E. Prose, Phil W. Prose, Bid R. Prose, Mrs. Ruth Offerie, Ruth
and Grace Stull granddaughters, of Beeler, Ray Prose, Victor, CO, Mrs.
Hattie Hottinger, Camino, CA, Mrs. Bessie Young, Dighton; three sisters,
Mrs. Louisa Davenport, West Jefferson, Ohio, Mrs. Margaret Prose, Columbus,
Ohio, Mrs. Ella Wilson, Plains City, Ohio; one brother, Dick Wright, West
Jefferson, Ohio a number of grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, many nieces
and nephews and a host of friends.
In early life she gave her heart to God and lived a devoted Christian
life, choosing for her funeral test the following scriptures, Psalm 37:35.
This favored scripture also was used as a text at her father's funeral,
following his being killed in the "Seven day fight at Richmond" during the
Civil War.
