"Eugene Pallette Rites Planned

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 4 (AP) - A funeral service was being arranged today
for Eugene Pallette, 65, veteran motion picture actor who died of cancer
Friday at his home here.

His gruff, hoarse voice and huge girth were his screen trademarks.

His most notable appearances were in the films "Mr. Smith Goes to
Washington", "100 Men and a Girl," "My Man Godfrey" and "The Three
Musketeers."

Mr. Pallette was born in Winfield, Kan. His actor parents were then
playing in a road company version of "East Lynne."

He went on the stage in his early youth. But at one period in his life
he left the theatre and made and lost a fortune in Texas oil. He
returned to Hollywood and resumed a great career.

During World War II he purchased 3,000 acres in a remote part of Oregon
and set about stockpiling supplies there. He went into semi-retirement
there, eight years ago."
