Lyle SCHEI, 74, of Wanda died May 23, 2002, at Spring field Medical Center
Hospital in Springfield.
Services were held Monday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood
Falls with Rev. Scott Grorud and Rev. Joy Eckstedt officiating.
Casketbearers were Dan Weber, Erik Schei, Mike Jessop, Dale Seime, Jakob
Steinfurth and Nathan Siebenahler.
Honorary casketbearers were Howard Aanensen, Lavonelle Aanensen, Wilbur
Frank, Joan Frank, Curt Mathiowetz, Karen Mathiowetz, Craig Irlbeck and Vicki
Irlbeck.
Interment was at Wanda City Cemetery in Wanda.
Lyle Gordon SCHEI was born July 29, 1927, to Albert and Nellie (OLSON)
SCHEI in Lismore Township of Nobles County. He attended rural school near
Adrian, then worked on the family farm before leaving home at an early age to
work at other area farms.
In 1947, Lyle married Mary Ann KRENZIEN at Zion Lutheran Church in Adrian.
The couple farmed near Kanaranzi for seven years, then moved back to Adrian
before moving to Magnolia, where Lyle began his career as a chef.
He first worked for the Magnolia Steakhouse until 1966, then the original
Valley Supper Club in Redwood Falls. He also was the chef at Donovan's in
Redwood Falls before he and Mary Ann purchased the Wanda Country Steak and Drink
in 1984. In 1986, the Scheis started Wanda Catering.
Lyle has been involved in the Minnesota Licensed Beverage Association and
the Redwood Area Retail Liquor Association.
He coached Junior League Fastpitch Softball, sponsored the Wanda Girls
Fastpitch Team and was involved in the Wanda Centennial Committee.
He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls.
Lyle enjoyed cooking, practical jokes, birdwatching, gardening, making
lefse and creative recipe writing.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and Alfred; and two
sisters, Evelyn HONERMANN and Eileen MARR.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Wanda; three daughters, Deb (Roy)
KRAMER of Redwood Falls; Sheryl (George) STEINFURTH of San Ramon, Calif.; and
Wendy (Mark) SIEBENALER of Luverne; three sons, Rick (Jan) SCHEI of Redwood
Falls, Gordon (Christine) SCHEI of Albuquerque, N.M., and Scott (Melanie) SCHEI
of Wanda; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia SCHEI
of Luverne; Blanche SCHEI of Magnolia; Ivadell PRIMROSE of Fredricksburg, Iowa;
and Anabelle FRAKES of Luverne.
