FRANKLIN –– Sylvia Shirley (Shepard) Kelton, 70, of 28 Pearl St. in
Franklin, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 at the Lakes Region General
Hospital in Laconia following a short illness.
She was born in Franklin, Feb. 21, 1930, the daughter of Peter H.
Shepard Sr. and Fannie L. (Sargent) Shepard.
Mrs. Kelton was a lifelong resident of Franklin and graduated from
Franklin High School. She later attend Plymouth State College.
Mrs. Kelton and her husband had wintered in Daytona Beach-Port Orange,
Fla., for the past 14 years.
For several years she was secretary to former U.S. Senator Charles Tobey
in his Concord office. She later worked for many years as a secretary
for New England Telephone in Concord and Manchester. She then worked as
a secretary for the Franklin Police Department, retiring in 1957.
For several years she attended the Franklin United Methodist Church
where she and her husband were married.
Her family includes her husband of 45 years, Leonard H. Kelton of
Franklin; two sons, Mark E. Kelton of Washington, D.C., and Todd A.
Kelton of Franklin; two grandchildren; a brother, Donald F. Shepard of
Nashua; two sisters, Dorothy M. Marceau of Franklin, and Nancy L.
LaBonte of Gilford; numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the William F. Smart
Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. A funeral service
will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Memorial Home. Officiating will
be the Rev. Carol Cray, pastor of the Franklin United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
Expressions of sympathy may he made to either the Rescue Squad, c/o
Franklin Fire Department, 59 West Bow St., Franklin, NH 03235 or to the
Franklin Regional Hospital, 15 Aiken Ave., Franklin, NH 03235.
The William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home of Tilton is in charge.
