Charles 'Duke' Seibel

SAN BERNARDINO -- Charles "Duke" Seibel, a lifetime resident of San Bernardino, died Monday, June 2, at St. Bernardine Hospital.

He was born in San Bernardino in 1912 to Lillian and Bruno "The Flying Dutchman" Seibel. Bruno was a famed race car driver and mechanic working and racing alongside Barney Oldfield. His great-grandfather, John Brown Sr., early pioneer scout and mountain man, led the way into the San Bernardino Valley. Grandfather Charlie Rouse was sheriff of San Bernardino County at the turn of the century.

Duke was the owner of Duke's Appliance Center until he retired in 1975. He was a charter member and past president of San Bernardino Uptown Lions Club, pasrt president of the Edgehill club, member of the native sons of the Golden West Arrowhead Parlor, San Bernardino Masonic Lodge #348 F.&A.M., B.P.O. Elks #836 San Bernardino, and Scottish Rite.

Survivors include his wife, Joetta, brother, Ted Seibel of Dallas, Texas, two daughters, Joan Brunmier and Millie Castonguay, both of San Diego; a step-son, Bruce Savage of Kauai; 11 grandchildren, Mickey and Aaron Castonguay, Katie and Paul Brunmier, Lizzie Seibel, John Allen Savage, Shelly and Angela Savage, David Peyton Rufus Savage, and Gary and Shane Seidel, and his daughter-in-law Sheryl and her husband Steve Seibel.

Masonic services will be at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel at 1 p.m. Friday with burial at Mountain View Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after 3 p.m. Thursday.
