Grace B. Ryan
NORTHFIELD — Grace Barrett Ryan, 85, of 132 Oak Hill Road in Northfield,
died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the Franklin Regional Hospital
following a period of failing health.
She was born in Woonsocket, R.I., Oct. 21, 1915, daughter of Eugene and
Margaret (Buckley) Barrett.
She went to school in New Jersey and Massachusetts and attended Drake
Junior College, a business college in New Jersey.
Mrs. Barrett moved from Rensselaer, N.Y., to Northfield in 1980.
From 1964 to 1979, she worked as a waitress at various New York
restaurants and as an assistant teller with Key Bank in Albany.
She and her husband were members of the former 55 Club in Tilton. They
enjoyed their travels to the state and coast of Maine.
A Roman Catholic, Mrs. Barrett was a communicant of St. Mary of the
Assumption Church in Tilton.
Her family includes her husband of 62 years. Lawrence L. Ryan of
Northfield; two daughters, Katherine A. Ryan of Wells, Maine and Susan
R. Knowlton of Northfield; three sons, Lawrence B. Ryan of Kennebunk,
Maine, Michael L. Ryan of Northfield and Stephen L. Ryan of Franklin;
eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Barrett
of New Jersey; two sisters, Helen Vena of New Jersey and Katherine
Britton of Florida; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the William F. Smart
Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated Monday at 8:30 a.m. in St. Mary of the
Assumption Church in Tilton with the Rev. Richard Giroux, pastor, as
celebrant. Burial will be later in the spring in St. John Cemetery in
Tilton. Expressions of sympath may be made in Grace’s name to the Hall
Memorial Library, 18 Park St., Northfield, NH 03276. The William F.
Smart Sr. Memorial Home of Tilton is in charge
