Gwendolyn Jones

NORTH BERWICK, Maine — Gwendolyn M. Jones, age 76, of Lower Main Street,
passed away Friday, April 20, unexpectedly, at Wentworth-Douglass
Hospital in Dover.

She was born January 25, 1925 in Lebanon, Maine, daughter of Harold C.
and Beulah (Gray) Jones. She graduated from North Berwick High School as
valedictorian of her class. Mrs. Jones then earned a degree in Business
at MacIntosh Business College where she went on to teach for 35 years.
She had also been a co-owner of MacIntosh College. After retiring from
teaching, she had been a cashier at Farnham’s in Dover for 15 years. For
the past year, she has cashiered and done bookkeeping for her son’s
store, The Yankee Cupboard, in South Berwick, Maine, where she will be
greatly missed by her family and friends in the community.

Ms. Jones also enjoyed reading as well as teaching her grandchildren and
spending time with her family. She is survived by her son and his wife,
George and Karen Mathews and three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Cathryn and
Hannah, all of North Berwick, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, April 22 from 7to 9 p.m. at the
Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick, Maine where a
funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Stanley Rockafellow of
the Eliot Baptist Church officiating. Interment following in Mount
Pleasant Cemetery in North Berwick. Family flowers only. Friends who
wish to contribute to Beulah G. Jones Scholarship Fund, Kennebunk
