OBITUARY

Ted Schenegge
Funeral services for Ted Schenegge,70,were held May 18 at the First
United Methodist Church in Pierre with Rev. Dr. Harvey Sander officiating.
He died as the result of accidental burn injuries at Ramsey Burn Center, St.
Paul, MN. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery at Pierre.
Music at te service was provided by organist Mrs. Carol Sander, and
vocalist Comet Haraldson.
All of Ted's friends acted honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were
Bill Arch, Ernest Burmeister, Harold Hansen, Ted Uecker, Don Bartlett and
Bill Abernathy.
Theodore Herman Schenegge was born to Fredrick and Amelia Hienemeir
Schenegge on June 19,1906 at the McGee ranch near Ree Heights. He was the
youngest of thirteen children. His father passed away when he was five years
old and the family moved to Buffalo County, where he lived and attended
school until he was twelve. He moved with his mother to Washington, where he
lived for two years. They returned to SD in 1930 where he lived with his
mother and brother, Fred, on a ranch in Big Bend near DeGrey. He finished
his grade school education there and attended high school at Canning.
Ted worked on various ranches as a cowboy in Hughes and Buffalo
Counties, then went into partnership with his brother, Fred, buying out his
share in the 1930's . He also was Hughes County assessor for several years.
He farmed and ranched in Big Bend until poor health forced him to sell out
and move to Pierre in 1958. He worked for Ben Petersen at Pierre for about
twelve years until increasing ill health forced him to retire. He was an
invalid for eleven years.
Ted was married to Evelin Burneister on July 3, 1945. To this union
three children were born, Karen, Michael and Elsie.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Evelin; son Michael; daughter
Karen Herzog and son-in-law, Jeff Herzog, Honduras,
Central America; grandchildren, Katie and Justin; brother, Ernest of
Bothell,WA; Louis of Kettle Falls,WA; Walter of Alliance, NB; sisters,
Carolyn Smith of Redmond,WA; Pauline Uecker of Pierre; Mildred Abernathy of
Gann Valley; Elsie Gillman of Hemet, CA, and many nieces and nephews.

CARD OF THANKS

The family of Ted Schenegge would like to express their sincere
appreciation to Daniel Gates and Dean Kelly for their quick action during
our tragic fire; to the Pierre police, Fire Dept. and Ambulance Service, for
their quick sympathetic services; to St. Mary's Hospital and Ramsey Burn
Center staffs for their wonderful care, and to all of our friends, neighbors
and relatives for their prayers, sympathy, food and other acts of kindness
during our stay at the hospitals and during our bereavement. Special thanks
also to Bill and Kay Arch for taking our family into their home; to the Hall
Funeral Home for their sympathic services; To Dr. Harvey Sander for his
comforting prayers and message; to Comet Haraldson and Mrs. Sander for
beautiful hymns and to all others whose concern and understanding helped
make our bereavement easier to bear.(sic)
