WILBUR W. LEEMKUIL

Wilbur W. "Wib" Leemkuil, owner of the Standard Oil service station on
Jefferson St., died unexpectedly Sat., March 4,at the age of 51.
Mr. Leemkuil, a lifetime Burlington resident, is described by friends as
someone who beleived deeply in what is good, and right, and did not hesitate
to stand up for his beliefs. At the same time, he loved people and truly
enjoyed them, whether in a quiet conversation or as the life of a party. He
also loved a good quip and lightened many a meeting with them.
He was born July 21, 1920. in Pecatonica, Il., to William D. and
Jeanette (Zaedow) Leemkuil, and he moved to Burlington at an early age. On
Feb.8,1942, he married Margaret Hamilton in Janesville.
He was parts manager for Ford until 25 years ago, when he took over the
Standard station. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was active in the
American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of which conducted
military honor guards Sun. night at the Schuette, Werth and Daniels Funeral
Home during visitation and also conducted military graveside services.
He was a member of Plymouth Church where funeral services were
conducted at 2 pm Mon. March 6, by the Rev. Trent Rockwell. Burial followed
in the Burlingtion cemetery.
In addition to his wife, three children survive him, a son, Dirk, former
mayor of Burlingtion High School and now a student at River Falls, and two
daughters, Mrs. Mark(Kay) Dudley South Milwaukee, and Mrs. Lief (Trudy)
Erickson,West Milwaukee; two grandchildren, Kelly and Jason Dudley; a
brother, Ray Leemkuil, Madison; two sister, Mrs. Fred (Opal) Forge and Mrs.
John (Elaine) Hall, both of Burlingtion and nieces and nephews.
