Good point, Teri,
and I think organizational policy must *directly* reflect the mission of
the organization.
I think we need a concise "statement of mission" --
I think we all *know* what our mission is...and our main webpage:
http://www.usgenweb.org
states who we are and what we do....
but I think it would be nice to add a brief, clearly labeled mission statement...
just say: "Our Mission"
The statement can be a lot like what's on the page now...maybe reword it
a bit, for example we could say:
"To assist in online genealogical research by providing non-commercial,
no-fee access websites for every county and state within the 50 United
States of America."
The advantage to a clearly-defined mission statement is our ability to
refer back to that statement as we construct our organizational policy.
It enables us to ask, in every situation, "How does this relate to or
affect our mission?"
Organizational policy should relate to or directly affect the mission,
otherwise it shouldn't be in policy.
Make sense?
Whaddaya think?
(and hey, if we already have a mission statement, just say so...I don't
mean to rewrite something we've already got. I just wasn't aware of it,
that's all).
If we come up with some good ideas on this list...what do we do with
them, guys? Does somebody know how and to whom we'd propose them?
...assuming we come up with anything to propose <VBG>
I've not done this before...so just haven't familiarized myself with the structure.
Thanks,
Sandy
