So many people already think we are a branch of RW/Ancestry (which is a
boost to them), if we fail, we will become IN FACT a branch of
Ancestry--they will have all the marbles AND the ARCHIVES.

Do you recall when RW set up all the cluster pages for each and every county
in the US and tried to get the volunteers to adopt them--this was a way of
duplicating the USGENWEB PROJECT--going into competition with it and further
blurring the lines between the two. Those pages were pretty much automated
with all the GenConnect Boards--a way of having county sites without all
those pesky noisy blankety-blank CCs. They already had people thinking that
RW was the USGenWeb Project.
But as a growing business, they still needed those unpaid workers to do the
minor clerical work on the Boards. Automation grows... and they will have
less need for those pesky volunteers that moan all the time about
ownership..

The fact is the county sites are a HUGE draw to the archives and to
RW/Ancestry. The thousands of county sites are the doorway by which many
newcomers find Ancestry and the ARchives. But we CCs are so darn pesky.
Get rid of the usgenweb organization, which doesn't exist legally anyway,
and all that is left is the NAME, and whatever Ancestry wants to do with it.
Including running automated county sites. Besides... Linda Lewis' Archives
already has a STATE page and COUNTY page for every one in the US and they
know that is where the real value is. Cyndi's List does not even link to the
USGENWEB Project but only to the Archives !

Already many county sites just link to the Ancestry Forums and blatantly
tell the visitors to send their data to the ARchives.
There are so many counties that are just empty shells and doorways. WE are
NOT stronger than ever--we are very much weaker than ever. A corpse
standing up...as brian said about us way back when.

If that is not clear, ask me again and I will try again to put it in words
without having to write a book.

thanks,
diane
