Subject: [ABChat] AB Rep. to EC Resp. List so far
Date: Wed, 15 Oct 2008 8:11:28 -0400

Here is a brief recap of the responsibilities that I see from everyone comments:

-The EC Rep. will be subbed to the EC mailing list.
-Ensure that the Election Committee operates within the By-Laws and EC Standing Procedures
-The NC and EC Rep. will conduct the election of the EC Chair and Publicist/Secretary as required.
-Communicate questions and responses between the EC and AB as needed.

Here are a couple of questions that I have which we may want to consider.

During election time there have been instances where the EC Rep. and/or NC was/were unsubbed from the EC list because they were running for re-election (which makes sense). Should another AB member be appointed to fill in during that time? (My thought is yes and if the NC is unsubbed, the RAL, or if they are running for a position in the election a second AB member, should fill in)

Do you feel there are any limitations to this position? For example, some AB members have worked with the EC and sent email messages to members on behalf of the EC and/or AB without it being presented to the entire AB first. Since the EC Rep. is representing the entire AB in their position, should correspondence like that be brought to the entire AB first?

There are times when the AB is consulted to determine the eligibility of a member to vote as outlined in the EC procedures. Should it be clarified here that the EC Rep. will bring such requests to the entire AB?

The EC periodically sends out messages to the membership (calls for volunteers, announcements at election time, etc.) Traditionally, the NC forwards these messages to the Board list first and then they are distributed to project mailing lists after that initial announcement. Should the EC Rep. participate in that communication at all (ie. make the initial announcement on Board if they are available to do so before the NC is to be sure it is sent in a timely manner)?

Thanks,
Cyndie
SP Rep.
