Jim Powell, Jr, CC Rep for SE has been one of the two
guardians of individual CC rights, obedience to the by-laws,
not to mention just plain common decency. I hope that the
SE Region USGWP recognizes the quality and personal
integrity of Mr Powell and will not allow this questioning
to prevent his qualification for the position of National
Coordinator. This questioning is going on behind all
doors. One of the principals that Jim stands for is
"openness" of all Board discussions and actions. He took
himself off the Board Exec List because so much was being
done behind the scenes on that list. He has stood his
ground in protection of every CCs right of independent
control of their county function.

It is my hope that this entire project questions not only
how but why non-elected people are changing rules without
any action of the elected representatives. Those that are
supposed to be making decisions for the "good" of the
project, not preventing fairness in every turn.

According to a recent post on the FLGenWeb mailing list,
Roger Swafford
[Chair of the Election Committee] has requested that Jim
Powell withdraw
from the race for National Coordinator. Jim is being asked
to withdraw
because the EC is currently deciding whether or not he is in
"good
standing". Grounds for thinking otherwise of Jim are not
clear to this
author; Jim is one of better persons who have served this
project in
elective office. Regardless, this does not bode well for
the upcoming
election.

Not only is a small handpicked [by the NC, I remind you]
un-elected group
of people meeting in secret deciding on arbitrary membership
criteria for
voting, they are also determining who is and who is not in
"good
standing".
