I agree completely with Elaine. Instead of building on right now, let's
clean up what we already have. If we must have more SP's let's foresee what
the repercussions will be.

Betsy has made a very valid point. If you do an "African American
Project", then you have to cover the other ethnic groups such as
Hispanic, Native American, etc. Then let's not forget the others that
have been here for many generations, such as the German Americans, Asian
Americans, etc, etc, etc. If you give special project status to one,
you have to give to them all.

The USGenWeb Project was founded and based upon the principal of
covering ever state/county in the US. There was nothing in its scope to
cover the individual people except on the county sites. I feel that each
county should be covering the ethnic groups that encompass that county,
either by making their own ethnic group pages or by linking to other
sites that cover those issues.

My concern is that we seem to be getting off the mark with all the
special projects when we need to be spending that time getting the
various county sites up to snuff. I have visited some lately that
believe me, have not seen an update in years, the CC never answers the
emails, and they don't even have the minimum requirements on the site.
I think it is time we "clean up" what we already have before some of the
other "like" projects out there surpass us in the quality sites they are
presenting.
