PATRON QUESTIONS/ANSWERS
===================================================

QUESTION: From last week: Where can a patron post photos and get help with
identifying them. [Families in the Cleveland, Bannock (now Franklin), Idaho
area.]
ANSWER #1: I have many ancestors from the Franklin area. I would be
interested to know if the person having the box of pictures would be
interested at all in contacting me. I have older family who may be able to
help identify some. Just a long shot in the dark. e-mail:

ANSWER #2: I would like to refer this person to: Research Outline "Tracing
LDS Families" pg 38 MISSIOARRIES. Missionary records provide information
about a member's missionary service. They also provide genealogical
information. To find records of an ancestor's missionary service, see:
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Historical Department.
Missionary Record Index, 1830-1971. (FHL films 1913079-102) This is a card
index that lists full-time missionaries set apart up to 1971.
It also serves as an index to missionary registers available in the
Historical Department---- Archive Search Room. Each card shows missionary's
name, birth date and place, parents, home ward and stake, and mission; the
date the person was set apart; the name of the person who performed the
setting apart; and sometimes the release date. It also includes a reference
to missionary records. I personally went to the Historical Dept in the
church office building when I used this group of records. I was thrilled at
the information that I found on my family. Thanks, I hope this helps
someone. --- Maureen Hodges

FAMILY HISTORY & RESEARCH TIPS
===================================================

BIRTH/DEATH CERTIFICATES - Before you request copies of your ancestors'
birth and death certificates, visit the state vital-records office Web site.
You may learn county offices or state archives hold older records, you'll
find out how to request a record, and you'll get information about access
restrictions and copying fees. "Family Tree Sourcebook", September 2005,
also available at
http://www.familytreemagazine.com/mags/display.asp?id=1699.

PICTURE PEDIGREE PRIMARY PROJECT - A project to help the Primary boys and
girls in their stake fulfill a requirement for their "Faith in God Award" by
helping them create a picture pedigree of their family for 3 or 4
generations. They will then use the picture pedigree charts to decorate for
their coming Family History Fair. This is a terrific way to get the parents
and children involved in Family History work together and end up with a
valuable chart for each family--that most wouldn't get around to doing on
their own (and might not have the knowledge and equipment to do). They have
set up some dates where they will have scanners, computers, and
knowledgeable helpers available to help with this goal. Primary children and
their parents are encouraged to bring their pedigree information (preferably
on a disk or jump drive already entered into PAF) and any photos they would
like to use. ---submitted by Jeanne Jensen, South Jordan Stake; included in
Marge Westra's helps for FHC Directors, Priesthood Leaders, and Family
History Workers, 1/2/05.

MORMON PIONEER OVERLAND TRAVEL - The Mormon Pioneer Overland Travel
(1847-1868) information at LDS.org's church history site has wonderful
information about your ancestors including handcart and wagon train
information, journals, passenger lists, newspaper articles, biographies,
etc. You can search for a specific person or browse the list of companies
alphabetically or chronologically.

CANADIAN PASSENGER LISTS - The manifests of ships arriving at Canadian Ports
listing passengers have been preserved on microfilm at Library and Archives
Canada. The aim of the Nanaimo Family History Society is to index arrivals
at Halifax and Quebec (Montreal is included in the Port of Quebec) from 1900
to about 1921 when the passenger lists were discontinued for a time in favor
of the form 30A. This is a large project that will take many years and would
not be possible without the many volunteers who are transcribing the lists.
Currently the project is indexing Quebec arrivals from 1908 to 1910. Quebec
Ports for the periods 2 Jul 1908 to 13 May 1910 and 17 Sep 1910 to 13 Oct
1910 has been completed and the index, comprising of 177,739 listings from
409 ship arrivals is shown on these pages.

Big Mud Puddles and Sunny Yellow Dandelions

When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds that are going
to take over my yard.
My kids see flowers for Mom and blowing white fluff you can wish on.

When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a smelly, dirty
person who probably wants money and I look away.
My kids see someone smiling at them and they smile back.

When I hear music I love, I know I can't carry a tune and don't have much
rhythm so I sit self-consciously and listen.
My kids feel the beat and move to it. They sing out the words. If they
don't know them, they make up their own.

When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I feel it messing
up my hair and pulling me back when I walk.
My kids close their eyes, spread their arms and fly with it, until they fall
to the ground laughing.

When I pray, I say thee and thou and grant me this, give me that.
My kids say, "Hi God! Thanks for my toys and my friends. Please keep the
bad dreams away tonight. Sorry, I don't want to go to Heaven yet. I would
miss my Mommy and Daddy."

When I see a mud puddle I step around it. I see muddy shoes and dirty
carpets.
My kids sit in it. They see dams to build, rivers to cross, and worms to
play with.

I wonder if we are given kids to teach or to learn from? No wonder God
loves the little children!
Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize
they were the big things.

I wish you Big Mud Puddles and Sunny Yellow Dandelions!!!

that take our breath away."
