=Olive Branch: The Brotherhood of Joseph and Judah with Alan Steele. Growing up in the Los Angeles area, Brother Steele, later a convert to the Church, had many Jewish friends and learned customs, traditions and most importantly the spiritual thought of his Jewish friends. Later he was called to be part of a pilot missionary program to the Jewish people. A student of the richness of Hebrew words and alphabet, he has taught in the Institute Program of the CES [Church Education System]. His remarks this coming April will emphasize the bonding link of Judah and Joseph and the two greatest patriarchal blessings given to the House of Israel.=
Brother Steele grew up in the Los Angeles area, attending schools with a large Jewish student body. He began to learn customs, traditions and most importantly the spiritual thought of his Jewish friends. A convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was spiritually driven to learn more about the House of Israel. In high school, he had a profound spiritual experience that changed his life forever, as wells as a first-hand witness of the literal gathering of Israel class-mate left with their families for the Holy Land. Four years later he was part of a pilot missionary program to the Jewish people in the Los Angeles area under the direction of Elder LeGrand Richards of the Council of the Twelve Apostles. This was also the year of the dedication of the Los Angeles Temple, which generated interest as well. The Church attempted another program in 1973 in many major U.S. cities. As a student of the richness of Hebrew words and alphabet,
Brother Steele's remarks in April will emphasize the bonding link of Judah and Joseph and the two greatest patriarchal blessings given to the House of Israel.
