Morgan LaVon Buttars, 73, died July 12, 2005, at his home of causes incident to lymphoma. He was born July 9, 1932, in Logan, Utah, to Benjamin Charles and Laura Susannah Griffiths Buttars. He began his education in a one-room school in Cedarville, continued in Weston and graduated from West Side High School.

He married Venice Nielsen in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Aug. 22, 1952. They enjoyed almost 53 years of marriage together. He lived and farmed his entire life in the Weston area until 1992 when he and Venice moved to Preston. He enjoyed his work and found satisfaction in doing a good job and getting his work done on time. He always had a plan and worked to make it happen.

He was a high priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of positions including counselor in the Weston Ward bishopric. He enjoyed people and being a home teacher. He served on the Weston City Council and would like most to be remembered as a good friend and neighbor.

Morgan loved his family dearly. He is survived by his wife, Venice, of Preston; his four children, Sherry (Kevin) Phillips of Dayton, Idaho, Brad (Laurie) Buttars of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Stacy (Corrie) Keller of Boise, Idaho, and Jay (Kristin) Buttars of Pocatello, Idaho; a foster son, Benjamin Maestas of Cuba, N.M.; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Charles (Donna) Buttars of Weston, Stewart (Lera) Buttars of Preston, Elma (Sanford) Walker of Farmington, Utah, Valeen (Kirk) Bitter of Bountiful, Utah, LaReen (James) Carley of Ogden, Utah, and Clint (Cheryl) Buttars of Weston. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lora Hayes and Faye Buttars; and two granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, July 16, in the Preston 10th Ward Chapel, 155 N. 200 West, with Bishop Cleve Esplin conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Webb Funeral Home and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in the Clarkston Cemetery in Clarkston, Utah.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to extended family, friends, neighbors and the medical staff at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, Hospice and other care providers for their concern, support and many acts of kindness.
