Barbara Berntson Rasmussen, 73, passed away from complications due to colon cancer on July 18, 2005. She died as she lived, surrounded by loved ones at her home in Sandy, Utah.
She was born to Edgar and Luna Berntson on Aug. 21, 1931, in Logan, Utah. She attended local schools, graduating from Logan High School in 1949, and attended Utah State University. She married Clair Rulon Rasmussen in the Logan LDS Temple on Sept. 10, 1951.
Barbara spent her life in service to her family and her fellow man. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many positions including Relief Society president, Young Women's president and visiting teacher. She touched and blessed many lives.
Widowed at the age of 41, she spent the remainder of her life caring for others. After raising her children, she moved back to Logan in order to care for her elderly mother and aunts. Following their deaths, she moved to Salt Lake City to care for her ailing father-in-law.
She always enjoyed life and had a wonderful sense of humor, even in the most difficult circumstances. She had a great love for learning and zest for life that made it a pleasure to be in her company. Her generosity with both her time and means knew no bounds.
She was a devoted mother who adored her children and grandchildren and was adored by them. She is survived by her two daughters, Jill (Will) of Sandy and Mary (Bryce) Hesterman of Fort Collins, Colo.; two brothers, Boyd Berntson of Weaverville, Calif., and Alan (Dottie) Berntson of Woodland Hills, Calif.; grandchildren, Jason (Katherine), Ryan (Bronwynn), Katie (Adam), Jeff, Makenzi (Cameron), Becky and Jeff; and great-grandchildren, Elise and Nathan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, at the Eastridge 8th Ward building, 1020 E. Sunburn Lane (11575 South), Sandy. A viewing will be held there that morning from 9:30 to 10:30. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Logan City Cemetery. The family gratefully acknowledges the tender care and compassion of dear friends and extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Clyde Ford, Dr. Steven Smith, Dr. Bruce Chamberlain, the home care nurses and aids at Harmony Hospice, and Mike Anderson.
