My great grandfather's history states the following:
"James Herbert is reported to have said, "If you fellows around here will give me a name for this place, I will bring your mail to you." The name chosen was Charles' Town in honor of Charles Decker, one of the leading settlers and farmers of the community and the year was 1867."
