Hi Lisa,
I'm a fellow Mac user. For the Mac I have settled on GEDitCOM, which can
be downloaded from www.geditcom.com. This program gives Macintosh OS users
a big advantage for preparing GEDCOM files. The registration fee is
$49.99, but you can try it in DEMO mode free.
GEDitCOM has an extensive downloadable manual that covers in great detail
the standards of LDS for GEDCOM records. It costs nothing to download the
manual, and it is the best I have seen for GEDCOM.
GEDitCOM is intuitive and a breeze to master. You don't have to read the
manual to use the program right away, but you should read the manual to
learn the GEDCOM standards. The program does a lot of your thinking for
you to conform to these standards, and I believe it is the most foolproof
for preparing true GEDCOM files. GEDitCOM files, which may be exported to
or imported from other genealogy programs, may be instantly switched
between several formats. GEDitCOM version 2.8 allowed you as well to
switch between GEDitCCOM, Family Tree Maker, Pedigree, and Reunion formats
without having to have those programs; I haven't checked to see if the
current version 2.9 retains this ability.
Good Luck.
