I don't know what is most common to this list. I need several years -
all after 1880 -
but I am aware some census lookups are harder to get than others. 1930
might be
of great use to me, though, in finding living family members. Here is
the 1880 Census
and I seek only the sons:

Robert C. ELDER Self M M W 32 VA
Nannie J. ELDER Wife F M W 29 VA
John E. ELDER Son M S W 7 VA
Albert T. ELDER Son M S W 5 VA
Robert E. ELDER Son M S W 3 VA
Mary E. ELDER Dau F S W 5M VA
M. L. LITTLE Mother [in Law] F W 52 VA

The county here was Rockbridge. E stands for ERVINE, and T for TERRELL.

I suspect census are harder to obtain for Virginia, but I am pretty
desperate for
these, so I am asking for help.
