I would be very interested in what you have on Samuel Cary's involvement in
the Battle of the Hook, and anything else.

I believe that Edward MIGHT BE the brother of Samuel Reade Cary, who was
the
son of Elizabeth Seawell (Whiting) Cary and Maj. Samuel Cary of Gloucester.
She was the widow and second wife of Captain Thomas Whiting, first
Commissioner of the Virginia navy who died in 1781. Maj. Cary was a former
Continental
Line officer who was in the militia in 1781, and I BELIEVE took part under
Lt.
Col. John Mercer in the defeat of Tarleton at the Battle of the Hook. He
married Elizabeth Seawell (the widow Whiting) in about 1782.
