Alfred William Tennant, 72, of Fairview, died today at 7 a.m. at the General
Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of this county, and a carpenter by
trade. His parents were the late George and Caroline Cook Tennant.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Ella Dean Tennant; two sons, Arthur W Tennant
of Fairview and Emmett Tennant of Morgantown; one daughter, Mrs. Pauline
McGee of St. Berna Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Dean of Waynesburg, Pa and
Pearl Tennant of Davistown, Pa.; two brothers, Jacob Tennant of Blacksville
and Jasper Tennant of Brave, Pa; Six grandchildren.
Death date was Jan. 7, 1948

Homer B. Tennant
Homer Bert Tennant, 65, died early this morning at the home of a sister, Mrs.
Sadie Varner near Blacksville.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Amy Shackleford of Fairmont, Mrs.
Lillian Ellis of Daybrook and Mrs. Dorothy Wilson of Bradford, Pa,; one step
daughter, Mrs. Edna Tennant of Daybrook; two brothers, Charles Tennant of
Ohio and William Tennant of Michigan; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Park of
Wadestown, Mrs. Ema Wilson of Daybrook and Mrs. Varner; seven grandchildren
and seven great grandchildren. One stepdaughter, Mrs. Gladys Henderson is
deceased.

Leslie M. Tennant, 71, retired director of the Danville Social Service Bureau
in Danville, Va., died Monday night in the Danville Memorial Hospital after a
brief illness.
A Wwest Virginia native, he was born on July 20, 1900, a son of the late
David andd Rebecca Haught Tennant.
Mr. Tennant graduated from Fairview High School in 1922 and held an AB Degree
from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a Masters Degree from Columbia
University.
He had been engaged in social work in Virginia since 1934, and served as a
director of the Social Service Bureau from 1958-1970, when he retired.
He was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church and a teacher for its
class number 20. He was a past chairman and a member of the
Danville-Pittsylvania Mental Health Association and a member of the Kiwanis
Club and the Virginia Council of Social Welfare.
He is survived by his widow, Hazel Harsh Tennant; one son, Lawrence D.
Tennant; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas A. Peters and two grandchildren.
Four brothers and three sisters are deceased.
Burial was at Danville Memorial Gardens

Eva B. Tennant, 95, of Fairview, died Monday, May 17, 1993, at Wishing Well
Health Center, Fairmont.
She was born Oct. 2, 1897, on Rush Run, Marion County, daughter of the late
Elmer and Ernie Kuhn Toothman.
She was one of the first graduates of Fairview High School, in 1915, and the
first recipient of the Shurtleff-Toothman awawrd that year. She graduated
from Fairmont Normal, and Taught at Grant Town and Jakes Run. She was a
member of St. John's Methodist Church at Bassnettville since 1912, where she
served as a church pianist and choir director for many years. She was a
charter member of Ladies Aid Society, a Sunday school teacher and started
Vacation Bible School there.
She is survived by three daughters, Rosalie Chisler, Wilma Williams and
Patricia Nichols; three sons, Olan "Bud" Tennant, Clifton Tennant and David
Tennant; 25 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 4 great-great
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Uriah "Buzzy" Tennant; a daughter,
Virginia Freeland; four brothers and a great grandson.
Her body was donated to the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University.

Eva Ellen Tennant, 89, of Cassville, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at
Monongalia General Hospital, in Morgantown.
She was born Feb. 4, 1910, at Jakes Run, daughter of the late Alva and Bertha
Tennant Varner.
She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Dents Runs Boulevard, Westover.
She was also an avid bingo player at the Cassville VFD.
She is survived by six sons, William Alva Tennant, Arlie Ray Tennant, Marvin
Gale Tennant, Melvin Earl Tennant and Charles James Tennant, all of
Cassville, and Frankie Dale Tennant, of Jere; six daughters, Mary Olive
Gaskill and Esther Faye Stemmell, bot h of Carroll, Ohio, Nancy Louise
Shriver, of Youngstown, Ohio, Carolyn Sue Tennant and Mabel Roseann Smith,
both of Cassville, and Norma Jean DeMastes, of Blacksville; a sister, Jettie
Tennant, of Morgantown; 54 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and 12
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Tennant, in 1956; a daughter,
Bertha Ellen Tennant; four brothers, Homer Varner, Denny Varner, Charlie
Varner and Bud Varner; and three sisters, Mable Brewer, Goldie Brewer and
Laura Willard.
Friends may call at Owen-Neely Funeral Home, Blacksville, from 7-9 p.m.
Sunday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday,
Nov. 9, with Pastor Don DeMastes officiating. Burial will be in St. Luke
Cemetery, Mooresville.

Lillie Catherine Tennant, 87, of Fairview died in Fairmont General Hospital
Thursday afternoon, (Sept., 25, 1986). She was born Sept. 24, 1889, a
daughter of the late Simon P. and Catherine Gump Haught. Her husband P.A.
Tennant preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Catherine Walls and Lucille Tennant;
three grandchildren.
One son, Paul, and two brothers, John and Charlie Haught are deceased.
She was a member of the Haughts Chapel United Methodist Church, a member of
the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 6 at Mannington and the Methodist
Women's Organization.
Burial was made in the Haught Cemetery

Lemley W. "Cooney" Tennant, 78, of 611 Vermont Ave., died at 10:55 p.m.
Sunday in Fairmont General Hospital. He was born at Little Falls Monongalia
County, June 6, 1908, a son of the late Minor and Louella Moore Tennant.
Survivors include his widow, Sallie M Brown Tennant, two daughters, Mrs.
Charles (Betty) Wiggs and Mrs. Frank (Mary K) Urso; three brothers, Leonard,
Leslie and Merlin Tennant; one sister, Lillian Tennant Harding; Six
grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Three brothers, Lester, Lonny and Charles and one sister Myrtle Tennant
Harding are deceased.
He retired a few years ago after working as a linotype operator for the
Times-West Virginian for 50 years.
he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a trustee for the
lodge.
Burial was at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.

Merlin Tennant, 69, of Suncrest Boulevard died Monday March 28, 1988 at 4:50
p.m. at his home. He was born May 19, 1918, in Monongalia County, son of the
late Minor and Loulla Moore Tennant. Survivors include his wife, Mildred
Merle Dennison Tennant; one son, Mark Tennant and two daughters; Sharon Dee
Tennant and Paulette Brookover, one brother Leonard Tennant and two sisters;
Leslie Tennant and Lillian Harding, five grandchildren, Scott Vorhauer, Tara
and Lauren Brookover, and Regan and Brittany Tennant. Four brothers and one
sister are deceased. He was a wielder for Sharon Steel for 35 years and
served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Gerald Tennant, 83, of Jakes Run, Fairview, died Sunday April 25, 1993 at
Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born May 20, 1909, at Jakes Run, son of the
late Richard Dee Tennant and Ida Mae McCord Tennant.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Reeves Tennant; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Richard James and Regina Tennant Sr. and Delbert Glenn and
Melvia Tennant Sr., all of Fairview; three brothers, George, John and Richard
Tennant all of Fairview; two sisters, Myrtle Flint and Dorothy Troy both of
Ohio; five grandchildren, BTC, Delbert Glenn Tennant Jr., Richard James
Tennant Jr., William Lee Tennant, Sgt. Rebecca Lynn Tennant and Betty Jean
Hughes; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lester, Lloyd, Russell and Edwin
Tennant; three sisters, Pearl Sears, Dessie Brummage and Ada Butcher.
He worked for Consolidated Coal Co., as a coal miner and was a steel worker
for Schoot's Metal in Akron, Ohio. He was a member of Daybrook Church of
Christ and the UMWA.
Burial was at Brewer Cemetery.

Lester Tennant, 65, of Rt. 2 Fairview, Jakes Run, died in West Virginia
University Hospital Tuesday morning after a short illness. He was born Jan.
31, 1908, a son of the late Richard D. Tennant and Ida May McCord Tennant.
Survivors include six brothers and five sisters, Gerald, Lloyd, George,
Russell, John and Richard Tennant, Mrs. Ada Butcher, Mrs. Dessie Brummage,
Mrs. Pearl Siers, Mrs. Myrtle Flint and Mrs. Dorothy Troy; several nieces and
nephews.
He was a member of the Daybrook Church of Christ and a veteran of WWII.
Death date was Nov. 27, 1973


Richard Dee Tennant, 85, of Fairview, died yesterday at 6:30 p.m. in his
home. Born Oct. 31, 1885, he was the son of the late Edgar A and Ellen McCoy
Tennant. His wife Ida May is deceased.
Surviving him are seven sons, Lester, Gerald, Lloyd, Russell, George, John
and Richard Tennant; three daughters, Mrs. Pearl Siers, Mrs. Dorothy Troy and
 Mrs. Myrtle Flint; one brother, Fletcher Tennant; 33 grandchildren and 28
great grandchildren.
There are two sons, two brothers and two sisters also deceased.
He was a member of the Fairview Church of Christ.
